Avocat à la Cour and Solicitor, Alan Mason is a partner in Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer's corporate practice group in Paris.

Alan advises a variety of clients in his areas of specialisation, principally public and private M&A. Some of his recent experiences include advising:

  • Eurotunnel on the restructuring of its debt and equity and on the issue of subordinated deferred equity securities;
  • Colonial in connection with its offer for SFL;
  • the presenting banks in connection with the offer for PagesJaunes;
  • La Caixa in connection with the disposal of its French business to Boursorama and related joint venture investment with Société Générale; and
  • Kingfisher on a number of transactions, including its bids for Castorama, the demerger of the KESA electricals business and its general merchandising business.

Alan has written extensively on issues related to public M&A, notably on the implementation of the Takeover Directive in France. He recently spent one year within the investment banking division of a major investment institution, where he was involved in all of the legal aspects of the bank's activities in France.

Alan received his law degrees from the Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne and King's College, London.

A dual French and British citizen, Alan is bilingual in French and English.
