London 2012 will be Everyone's Games, everyone's 2012. This is the vision at the very heart of our brand. It will define the venues we build and the Games we hold and act as a reminder of our promise to use the Olympic spirit to inspire everyone and reach out to young people around the world. It is an invitation to take part and be involved.
Sebastian Coe, Chair, London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games
"We first got the call to help the London 2012 bid company in September 2003: six years on and we are delighted that we have now been appointed as the official legal services provider to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
As the official law firm appointed to assist the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) we will be providing a range of legal services – such as property; venue use agreements; employment law; intellectual property including trade marks, brand protection and sponsorship rights; general corporate and commercial advice; procurement; tax law; and dispute resolution – to help deliver a successful Games in 2012.
It's not just about the work of course. As a firm that strives for excellence and innovation in everything we do, we like to think that we share many of the ideals that are associated with the Games. We’re an international law firm with a strong London presence, so we are very happy to be working with LOCOG as they prepare to welcome the world to a city where we’ve been practising since 1743.
Our commitment to London encompasses all aspects of this global city: from primary schools and homeless shelters to the Bank of England and the world of international finance. Indeed, some of our longest-standing programmes are rooted in the communities surrounding the 2012 site (www.freshfields.com/csr/community/activities/) and we foresee many opportunities for engaging them, via extension of these programmes, in the spirit of the Games and in London 2012.
We, like LOCOG, want the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games to inspire young people from all over the world to achieve their dreams. We are proud to have been selected to deliver the top-quality legal service that this hugely complex event demands and we look forward to helping LOCOG deliver a Games for everyone in 2012."
